Job Description
The CAD Specialist works on engineering projects for new and existing products and specials. Working independently with direction on assignments from the Project Engineers, the CAD Specialist is responsible for timely and accurate completion of assignments. This position reports to the Manager of Project Engineering.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Knowledge:
- Drafting standards including print detailing and assembly exploded view creation
- MS Office basic proficiency
- Product assembly processes and component application related to furniture manufacturing
Skills:
- Communicate accurately and clearly using both written and spoken word
- Interface with internal and external customers to ensure all needs are anticipated and achieved
- Make assessments related to work assignments and appropriately communicate
Abilities:
- Organize, prioritize and manage multiple projects in a team environment
- Drive assignments to completion within prescribed time frames
- Solve typical design problems
PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Job Requirements:
- Provide Manufacturing support for engineering changes and product launch
- Develop accurate and complete bills of material
- Create documentation for assembly processes
- Prepare and communicate project completion status, plans and updates
- Provide accurate, complete, and timely information for internal and external customers
Technical Skills:
- Create 3D CAD models and drawings of furniture components and assemblies
- Use 3D CAD models to develop technical drawings
- Import customer data, CAD data and modify to internal standards
- Develop new furniture products using primarily wood, plastic or metal framing components
- Reviews product design for compliance with engineering principles, company standards, customer requirements, and other specifications
- Understand the relationship between major components including structural frame, foam, and cover material to achieve the desired aesthetic and functional design
- Understand ISO standards related to product designs including quality standards
- Provide technical support for tool design related to aluminum, steel, plastic, foam molding, etc.
- Application of GD&T industry standards

- Work Environment: Normal Engineering department work environment with minimal noise and no significant airborne dust or high consistent noise levels.
QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS:
Required:
- Associate degree in Drafting, Design Technologies, Engineering or equivalent experience in a related field
- Minimum 2 years of SolidWorks experience through accredited coursework or prior job experience
- Knowledge of drafting principles including part detailing, dimensioning, and tolerance stack up
- Proficiency in both SolidWorks 3D CAD system and/or other 3D parametric modeling software
- Willingness to pursue additional company paid training as required
- Ability to lift parts weighing up to 50 lbs.
- Mechanical aptitude including ability to assemble components as needed
- Desire to learn and grow within the organization
- Infrequent travel which may include overnight stays
Desired:
- SolidWorks advanced course completion at college level or through certified SolidWorks training
- Certification in SolidWorks (CSWA, CSWP)
- Basic understanding of geometric dimensioning and tolerance (ASME Y14.5M)
- Expected to become proficient at part modeling using surfacing/SubD modeling
- Work in an ERP based systems environment
