Job Description

Position: Accounting Specialist - Full Time, Hourly

Purpose: We are seeking an entry-level Accounting Specialist to join our accounting team here at SVN | Second Story Real Estate Management.. The ideal candidate will assist in maintaining accurate financial records for properties we manage, assist in the month end process of sending our Owner Financial Statements, and supporting the accounting team with daily tasks as needed. Reports to: Accounting Manager

Responsibilities:

• Understand and embody company mission and core values

• Help oversee SVN | Second Story’s financial management of Property Management client’s assets

• Participate in the month end process of closing our property monthly financial statements

• Preparation and submittal of monthly Property Owner Financial Packets while ensuring accuracy and timeliness

• Work in unison with Property Managers to make corrections as needed

• Routinely reconcile bank statements and financial statements and resolve discrepancies in a timely manner

• Prepare and post journal entries to the general ledger to complete monthly financial statements

• Develop and maintain strong relationships with, bank partners, vendors and internal staff

• Provide supplemental reporting for monthly, quarterly, and annual reviews as requested

• Work directly with Accounting Manager to provide property management insight that will inform corporate forecasting and budget

• Work directly with Property Managers to develop and monitor annual property budgets

• Facilitate internal and external audits to ensure compliance and accuracy in financial records

• Work closely with Accounts Payable and Accounts Receivable clerks to ensure accurate and timely property bookkeeping

Education & Preferred Skills:

• Bachelor's Degree in Accounting or Finance required

  • Strong understanding of economic and banking processes

  • Working knowledge of regulatory standards (GAAP)

  • Ability to analyze financial data and prepare financial reports, statements, and projections

• Work requires professional communication and interpersonal skills

• Work requires a coachable team player who can work both independently and within a team

• CPA License preferred but not required

• Experience with accounting software, Appfolio preferred but not required

• Experience working in property management is preferred but not required

Compensation Details:

• Full-time, hourly position
