Assistant Director, Operations Student Financial Services Full-Time, Professional Staff The Assistant Director of Operations in Student Financial Services (SFS) will supervise a team of 9 staff members who are responsible for the administration of university, state, and federal scholarship, loan, and aid programs, including evaluating eligibility, over-awards, and appeal processes. The Assistant Director will oversee student retention efforts developed internally or in coordination with other University departments.
Primary Responsibilities :
- Oversee processes related to verification, Satisfactory Academic Progress (SAP), financial aid packaging, Federal, State, Institutional, and private aid programs, as well as loan certification
- Oversee student loan debt processes and monitor the University's cohort default rate
- Oversee department appeal processes (i.e., professional judgements, SAP, Residency, etc.)
- Monitor, reconcile, and report on spending of aid funding
- Coordinate department student retention efforts and serve as liaison with University retention initiatives
- Analyze institutional scholarship/discount programs and provide accurate and timely data to the administration. Provide recommendations on the utilization of funds to meet institutional enrollment and retention goals
- Collaborate with SFS staff and other offices on campus (i.e., Advancement, Athletics, Human Resources, etc.) to enhance processes
- Ensure staff are cross-trained and duties are allocated between staff to meet deadlines and service standards
- Work with the leadership team in the department to continually assess and recommend changes to processes between areas that will enhance student services.
- Mentor and develop a team of direct reports and create professional development plans with ongoing training opportunities
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree
- Professional experience in financial aid and/or related areas of Student Financial Services
- Working knowledge of current regulations applicable to financial aid in higher education
- Strong evidence of the ability to create and implement new initiatives with proven results
- Excellent interpersonal, verbal & written communications skills
- Strong evidence of computer skills, including word processing, database, spreadsheet, and presentation software experience
- Ability to communicate ideas clearly and effectively to both large and small groups
- Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain professional relationships within and external to the University
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
- Demonstrated ability to manage and motivate personnel/teams
- Ability to exercise sound judgment
- Demonstrated experience and understanding of customer service
- Demonstrated experience managing budgets
- Strong organizational skills, detail-oriented, and customer service-focused
