The Role: Lateral Associate - Tax | Washington, D.C.

We are seeking a Tax Associate from law school class years 2019 to 2021 to join a prestigious and expanding tax practice in Washington, D.C. This role offers a unique opportunity to work on complex and innovative tax matters across diverse industries.

Practice Expertise and Focus

The Tax Practice Group is widely recognized for its excellence in handling high-stakes, technically complex, and often novel tax issues. Key areas of focus include:

• Strategic and Private Equity M&A Transactions: Advising on tax structuring and compliance for mergers, acquisitions, and divestitures.
• Capital Markets Transactions: Providing tax guidance on IPOs, spin-offs, and other capital-raising activities.
• Investment Fund Formation: Structuring funds for optimal tax efficiency and compliance.
• Real Estate Transactions: Addressing tax implications of real estate acquisitions, developments, and joint ventures.
• Tax Controversy and Disputes: Representing clients in negotiations and disputes with tax authorities.

In this position, you will:

• Advise clients on complex tax matters , leveraging deep technical knowledge and creative problem-solving skills.
• Conduct in-depth research and analysis of tax laws, regulations, and rulings to support client strategies.
• Collaborate with cross-disciplinary teams to navigate high-profile transactions in M&A, capital markets, fund formation, and real estate.
• Draft memoranda, opinion letters, and other key documentation for clients and regulatory authorities.
• Engage directly with clients and colleagues, fostering strong relationships and a collaborative team environment.

Ideal Candidate Profile

We are looking for candidates who bring the following qualifications and attributes:

Experience and Expertise

• Experience Level: Law school graduate from 2019 to 2021 with a solid understanding of technical tax law, research, and writing.
• Transactional Expertise: Hands-on experience in M&A, capital markets, investment fund formation, or real estate tax matters.

Educational Credentials

• Juris Doctor (JD): Degree from a top-tier, accredited law school with stellar academic credentials.
• Additional Certifications: An LLM in Taxation is a plus but not required.

Core Competencies

• Technical Acumen: Exceptional legal research, analytical reasoning, and drafting abilities.
• Strategic Thinking: Creative problem-solving skills with the ability to address novel and challenging tax issues.
• Interpersonal Skills: Enthusiasm for direct client interaction, public speaking engagements, and collaborative teamwork.
