Chief Diversity Officer

The Chief Diversity Officer (CDO) at Massasoit Community College serves as a key leader responsible for advancing diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging (DEIB) initiatives across the institution. Reporting directly to the President, the CDO is a member of the President's Cabinet. The CDO collaborates with senior leadership, faculty, staff, and students to foster an inclusive campus climate and promote equitable practices that enhance the educational and work experiences for all members of the College community.

Key Responsibilities:

Strategic Leadership: Develop and implement a comprehensive DEIB strategic plan aligned with the College's mission, vision, and values. Lead efforts to integrate DEIB principles into all aspects of institutional policies, practices, and decision-making processes.

Education and Training: Design and deliver training programs, workshops, and seminars for faculty, staff, and students on cultural competence, bias awareness, accessibility, and inclusive practices. Promote understanding and awareness of diversity issues and foster a respectful, accessible, and inclusive environment.

Recruitment and Retention: Collaborate with Human Resources and academic departments to implement diversity recruitment strategies aimed at attracting and retaining a diverse faculty, administration, and staff. Partner with student services to support the recruitment and retention of underrepresented student populations.

Community Engagement: Establish and maintain partnerships with local community organizations, government agencies, and industry partners to enhance DEIB initiatives and support community outreach efforts. Serve as a liaison to external stakeholders on matters related to diversity, accessibility, and inclusion.

Data Analysis and Assessment: Develop metrics and assessment tools to monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of DEIB initiatives. Collect and analyze data on diversity metrics, climate surveys, and related benchmarks to inform decision-making and drive continuous improvement efforts.

Policy Development: Collaborate with senior leadership and governance bodies to review and revise institutional policies and practices to promote diversity, equity, accessibility, and inclusion. Advocate for policies that address systemic barriers and promote a more accessible and inclusive campus environment.

Advocacy and Support: Serve as an advocate and resource for individuals and groups from historically underrepresented backgrounds. Partner with the Title IX & Compliance Officer to address issues of discrimination, harassment, inaccessibility, and inequity through appropriate channels and provide support to affected individuals.

Job Requirements:
Minimum Qualifications:

  • Master's degree in Social Justice, Post-Secondary Education, Sociology, Social Anthropology, Public Administration, Human Resource Management, Psychology, Counseling, Organizational Development or related field.
  • Ten (10) years of experience advancing DEIB and/or social justice in a higher education setting or similar mission-driven complex organization; or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
  • Two (2) years of supervisory or management experience.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of best practices in DEIB, including strategic planning, training and professional development, recruitment and retention, and policy development.
  • Member of a formal or informal network of professionals engaged in the field of diversity and equity in higher education or other complex mission-driven organization.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills with demonstrated success building collaborative relationships across diverse constituencies.
  • Experience analyzing and assessing data to measure the impact of DEIB initiatives and inform decision-making.
  • Demonstrated commitment to promoting an inclusive, accessible, and equitable educational/work/community environment and advancing social justice principles.


Preferred:

  • Doctorate degree in Social Justice, Post-Secondary Education, Law, Sociology, Social Anthropology, Public Administration, Human Resource Management, Psychology, Counseling, Organizational Development or related field.
  • Conversant in a foreign language, especially Spanish, Portuguese, Haitian Creole, or Cape Verdean Creole.
  • Knowledge of civil rights laws, including those concerning race, creed, religion, color, gender, gender identity, sexual orientation, age, disability, genetic information, parental leave, pregnancy, parenting status, military service, national origin, and natural and protective hairstyles.


Job Specifications:

  • The CDO has overall leadership responsibility for the administration of services, policies, trainings, and programs that advance diversity, equity inclusion, accessibility, and anti-racism at the College.
  • The CDO brings leadership, emotional intelligence, strong communication, and conflict-resolution skills to charged issues in order to move the College forward in its mission. The CDO is a proactive leader with demonstrated skills in collecting and using data, shared governance, and bringing together community resources in support of institutional change and growth. The CDO works closely with academic and student services leaders and faculty, administration, and staff to advance equity and student learning goals in diversity, accessibility, and inclusion.

  • Experience in Microsoft Office Suite and Adobe Creative Suite


Interaction:

  • The Chief Diversity Officer must be able to work with individuals and groups both on and off campus including academic leaders, community-based, social service providers, business leaders, civic organizations, and incoming and current students.



Additional Information:

Position Status: Full-time benefited Non-Unit Professional



Hours: 37.5 hours per week Monday - Friday



Salary: $110,846.00 - $144,098.00 is commensurate with experience and education.



Worksite: Assignments will include all Massasoit sites and additional locations as necessary.
