Location: Kona Pier, Kona, HI

Position: Daytime Snorkel Captain

Hours: Must be available to work between 6:45 AM and 5:00 PM, including weekends and holidays (approx. 25-40 hours per week)

Compensation: Starting at $40/hour, with opportunities to earn up to $50/hour, plus additional earning potential through tips and possible commission.

About Us:

At My Kona Adventures, we specialize in creating unforgettable marine experiences while promoting marine-conscious practices. Our daytime snorkel tours provide guests with the opportunity to explore Kona’s breathtaking underwater world safely and responsibly, offering personalized attention with a maximum of six guests per tour.

Responsibilities:

  • Operate and navigate the vessel safely and efficiently for daytime snorkel tours, ensuring compliance with all safety protocols and regulations.
  • Supervise and manage up to six guests per tour, ensuring their safety and comfort both on the vessel and in the water.
  • Provide leadership and supervision to the Deckhand, ensuring they perform their duties effectively and in accordance with safety standards.
  • Perform pre-trip safety briefings and outline tour expectations to guests.
  • Collaborate with the Deckhand to set up, maintain, and break down all tour equipment.
  • Assist guests in and out of the water and ensure a safe snorkeling environment.
  • Share knowledge about marine life, local reefs, and points of interest, enhancing the guest experience.
  • Monitor weather and water conditions, making informed decisions to ensure a safe and enjoyable tour.
  • Maintain cleanliness, organization, and operational readiness of the vessel, including post-tour cleaning.
  • Respond to emergencies effectively using First Aid and CPR training.
  • Foster a positive, welcoming, and professional environment for all guests and crew.

Qualifications:

  • Must be available to work between 6:45 AM and 5:00 PM, including weekends and holidays.
  • Current and valid USCG Captain's License (OUPV or higher) required.
  • Reliable transportation to Kona Pier is required.
  • Must pass a drug test and comply with DOT drug and alcohol program regulations.
  • Current First Aid and CPR certifications required.
  • Previous experience operating vessels in a professional capacity preferred.
  • Strong leadership and supervisory skills to effectively manage crew members.
  • Strong communication skills and ability to provide excellent customer service.
  • Enthusiasm for marine life and a passion for delivering safe and memorable experiences.
  • Physically capable of assisting guests in and out of the water and performing vessel maintenance.
