Job Summary:
Under general supervision, the Phlebotomist performs venipuncture and specified test to obtain specimens; receive specimens, review labeling check condition of specimens and distribute. Phlebotomists collect blood samples by venipuncture and finger sticks on patients of varied ages who may be carriers of infectious agents or who may be hostile or unstable; receive specimens from patients and staff, check for condition and necessary information, and distribute specimens to the appropriate staff or processing for send outs. Phlebotomist complete requisitions and specimen site batches, maintain a clean, well-stocked phlebotomy room; enter test information into the computer and search computer files; answer phone and direct calls; and perform related clerical tasks. Will perform other duties as assigned or as needed, within reasonable expectations.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
High school degree or equivalent; any combination of education and experience which would provide the required knowledge and abilities, is qualifying, unless otherwise specified. Prefer completion of a specialized phlebotomy training program.
LICENSURE/CERTIFICATION/REGISTRY:
Phlebotomy Technician Certification by ASCP (PBT) or AMT (PBT) or equivalent approved certifications is required.
EXPERIENCE:
Requires 6 months of phlebotomy experience (can include training program).
Prefer one year of phlebotomy experiences; Maintains education and development appropriate for position.
